ASLP-IC Expands

Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact Member Status

Alaska, Florida, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and the U.S. Virgin Islands joined the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC), increasing the total number of member states to 35. The ASLP-IC Commission plans to begin granting compact privileges in 2025.

The Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) is a cooperative agreement enacted into law to facilitate the interstate practice of audiology and speech-language pathology while maintaining public protection. The Compact creates a system that grants authorization by participating states to allow licensees to practice in other recognized states under their laws and regulations.

The ASLP-IC recognizes the licensure requirements of the home state; and the ASLP-IC does not require a licensee to hold certification issued by any national professional association in order to obtain authorization to practice across state lines in states that are members of the compact

According to the Interstate Compact Overview
An interstate compact is a powerful, durable, and adaptive tool for ensuring cooperative action among states. It can provide a state‐developed structure for collaborative and dynamic action while building consensus among states. The nature of an interstate compact makes it the ideal tool to meet the demand for cooperative state action by developing and enforcing stringent standards while providing an adaptive structure that, under a modern compact framework, can evolve to meet new and increased demands over time.
